Lip blush is a cosmetic tattooing procedure that enhances the natural colour and shape of the lips by depositing pigment with a fine needle. It creates a soft, natural-looking tint similar to a lip stain or tinted balm, providing a semi-permanent enhancement to the lips' appearance.
Not everyone is eligible for lip blush. Factors like skin type, medical history (including allergies and skin conditions), and current medications play a role. Those prone to cold sores may require antiviral medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, as well as those under 18 years old, are typically not candidates. It's important to consult with a qualified technician for personalised assessment and guidance.
Lip blush typically lasts 1-3 years, varying based on individual factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare practices. Touch-ups are recommended every 1-2 years to maintain the desired colour and shape, ensuring long-lasting results.
Discomfort levels during the lip blush procedure vary among individuals, with most clients reporting mild to moderate discomfort. Topical anaesthetics are applied beforehand to minimise any pain or discomfort, ensuring a more comfortable experience for the client.
The lip blush procedure typically begins with a consultation where you discuss your desired lip color and shape with the technician. After numbing the lips to minimise discomfort, the technician will then apply pigment using a specialised tool designed for cosmetic tattooing. This process ensures precision and helps achieve the desired aesthetic outcome for your lips.
Prepare for your lip blush appointment by following the pre-advice provided by your technician.
After the lip blush procedure, it's common for your lips to be swollen and tender for a few days. It's important to follow the provided aftercare instructions, which typically include keeping your lips moisturised and clean. Initially, your lips may appear darker than expected, but over time, as they heal, the color will lighten by up to 50 percent. Be patient with the healing process and follow all aftercare recommendations to achieve the best results.
It's important to avoid wearing any makeup on your lips until they are fully healed after a lip blush procedure to minimize the risk of infection and ensure proper healing. Once healed, you can resume applying lip products as usual. Many clients find that the natural tint provided by lip blush is sufficient on its own, offering a subtle enhancement to the lips' color and shape.
To maintain the longevity of your lip blush, minimize sun exposure, apply SPF lip balm, and attend scheduled touch-up appointments as advised by your technician. Consistently follow their aftercare instructions for optimal results.
Yes! All new clients are required to have a patch test at least 48 hours prior to the treatment to check for any allergic reactions to the products used. I prefer in-person patch tests, as they include a consultation to discuss your eyebrows before the treatment. However, I do offer patch tests by post if that is more convenient for you; please contact me directly for this option. In-person patch tests can be booked via the online booking system and include a free consultation. Without a patch test, I am unfortunately unable to perform the treatment.
Yes, a consultation is essential to assess your suitability for lip blush and discuss colour preferences. During this consultation, I encourage you to bring your favorite lip colour, such as a gloss or lipliner, so I can match the shades accordingly. While in-person consultations are preferred for a thorough assessment, I also offer phone consultations for those unable to travel, though in-person is always preferred.
